President of AT&T I885-I887 and I907-I9I9


Alexander Bell invented the Phone,
it is Theodore Vail howether that made the Phone and the Bell company
a huge commercial succes

Theodore Vail was born in Ohio, USA January 16 I845

He started as a Manager for the Railway Postal Service
and it is only in I878 that Alexander Bell's father in law,
Gardiner Hubbard
managed to confice him to join Bell System,
the still struggeling company that had invented the Phone

.
Vail left Bell System in I889 ...

long distance facilities improove

On October 18, 1892, Alexander Graham Bell places the first long-distance call
from New York to Chicago


Howether in I907 he returned to the same company
that was now called
American Telephone and Telegraph AT&T



AT&T was once again facing problems due to the expiring
Patent of the invention of the Phone openiong the path for massive competition.
6000 Telephone companies were now providing phone services.

During the following Years Vail managed to
create the World's most profitable monopoly
builing an AT&T that controlled the US American Phone Market
also an AT&T that provided the best Telephone Service of the World



the advertising slogan was
"One System, One Policy, Universal Service."



Vail left AT&T in I9I9 to retire for the second time
and died the same year

Following and anti-trust suit filed against AT&T in I974


AT&T was dismanteled in I984
and Judge Greene of the US Department of Justice broke up "Ma Bell" into 8 companies



as well as the new AT&T


Pacific Bell and Ameritech are now SBC
Atlantic Bell is now Verison
Bell South remained Bell South
