Marseille metro system
Two line rubber tyre system (like Lyon and some Paris lines): 19,3 km (15,6 underground).
Line I(10,4 km): La
Rose - St. Charles (6,3 km):
I977 St. Charles - Castellane (3 km): 1978 Castellane - La Timone (1,1 km):
I992 Between Saint Just and Malpassé the line runs in the middle of a highway,
after a short tunnel it continues on a viaduct to the terminus at La Rose. This
line will be extended three stations from La Timone to La Blancarde, where interchange
with SNCF and tram line 68 will be provided, and further to Saint-Barnabe and
La Fourragère by 2006.
Line 2 (8,9 km): Castellane
- Joliette (3,3 km):
I984 Castellane - Ste.Marguerite and Joliette - Bourgainville (5,6 km): 1986
This line ends on a viaduct on both sides, Bourgainville and Ste. Margarite
- Dromel, the rest is underground.
It will be extended east one station to Saint-Loup (2005/2006).
